István Bartucz

István Bartucz works as an IT instructor in the field of elementary rehabilitation at the Fény a Sötétben Foundation. In his work, he helps visually impaired people learn about and use digital tools independently. He has been living with type 1 diabetes for 42 years and lost his sight 26 years ago as a complication of the condition. He uses an insulin pump and consciously integrates artificial intelligence into his everyday life in a versatile way: he uses it to gather information, estimate the carbohydrate content of meals, and support the use of an insulin pump and mobile application that are not fully accessible.

With the help of AI, he can access information displayed on the screen, and he also relies on it to operate the device and enter certain settings. In the panel discussion, he brings together the perspectives of a person living with diabetes, a visually impaired user and an IT instructor. Through his personal and professional experience, he shows how artificial intelligence can become a tool for technological access, independence and safety, and what developments are still needed to make diabetes technology truly usable for everyone.
