Dr. Lénárd Darázs

Lénárd Darázs is Rector of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and a professor of law. He is a full member of Academia Europaea. He was awarded a Jean Monnet Chair on the Law of the European Data Economy by the European Commission, which he established and currently leads at ELTE.He is Vice-President of the Hungarian Innovation Association (MISZ), President of the Hungarian-German Lawyers’ Association, and Scientific Director of the National Laboratory for Social Innovation (TINLAB). He also serves as an arbitrator and has several decades of experience as a legal advisor.His fields of expertise include the European data economy and data property law, the legal and ethical regulation of artificial intelligence, competition law, consumer protection, and various areas of private law, particularly contract and tort law.He is an internationally recognized expert in the ethical and legal regulation of artificial intelligence. In 2026, he was elected a full member of the International Academy of Artificial Intelligence Sciences (AAIS).Since its establishment, he has headed the Regulation and Ethics Working Group of the Hungarian Artificial Intelligence Coalition, as well as the AI Regulation and Ethics Knowledge Centre (MISZET).He places particular emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to artificial intelligence. In addition to the legal and ethical aspects of the technology, his work addresses its societal impacts and the optimization of its role in higher education.
