About

András Murányi is 51 years old and has been working in Hungarian media and communications for three decades. He graduated with a degree in communication studies and began his career in the sports section of Új Magyarország. He then spent, in two separate periods, sixteen years at Népszabadság, the newspaper that had the greatest influence on his professional life.

During his first period there, he worked as a member of the sports desk, while also writing as a television critic and columnist. In his second period, following his return, he became the last editor-in-chief of Hungary’s leading serious daily newspaper.

In the meantime, for four years, he served as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, responsible for the print, online and magazine platforms of the Ringier-owned Nemzeti Sport group. Later, as News Director, he contributed to the relaunch and growth of Zoom.hu. Seeking a new challenge, he then moved into the political sphere: from 2019, he worked in mayoral candidate and mayoral campaigns as Communications Director and Deputy Campaign Manager, while also carrying out advisory work in the fields of sport, media and general strategy.

He returned to the media world this summer, taking on the role of responsible editor at Index.hu, guided by professional standards that are important to him: ideological independence, factual accuracy and effectiveness. Throughout his career, he has published in numerous public affairs newspapers and has been a regular guest on television and radio analysis programs, as well as podcasts. He is the author of The Execution of Népszabadság, and has also worked as editor, reviewer and expert on several books. He has been teaching media students for nearly two decades.
