Dr. Eszter Sinkó

Dr. Eszter Sinkó is an economist and health policy expert with more than four decades of experience in healthcare management, financing, and public policy. She graduated in 1979 from the Karl Marx University of Economics with a degree in Theoretical Economic Policy. She began her career as a researcher at the Postgraduate Medical Institute before leading the Statistics Department at the Centre of Social Institutions. Between 1988 and 1992, she played an active role in Hungary's first wave of healthcare reform as a member of the Reform Secretariat of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, focusing on the restructuring and financing of the healthcare system. She also served as an elected member of the Health Insurance Self-Government from 1993 to 1998 and worked as a senior consultant at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes Hungary, advising the government on healthcare and pension policy. Dr. Sinkó is currently Deputy Director of the Health Services Management Training Centre, Semmelweis University. In 2000, she conducted PhD research at the London School of Economics. Her primary research interests focus on health policy evaluation and the performance of healthcare systems. She has been a member of the Editorial Board of IME – Interdisciplinary Hungarian Health Journal since its founding in 2001 and has served as Vice President of the Hungarian Healthcare Management Society since 2021.
