Department of Ophthalmology at Semmelweis University, and a Full Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is one of the leading figures in Hungarian and international ophthalmology, with research and clinical expertise focused on refractive surgery, cataract surgery, femtosecond laser technology, and ophthalmic innovation. In 1992, he introduced refractive surgery to Hungary, and in 2008 he became the first surgeon in the world to perform femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). Throughout his career, he has performed more than 37,000 refractive procedures and 20,000 cataract surgeries, making significant contributions to the advancement of modern ophthalmic surgery. Professor Nagy has held numerous leadership positions at Semmelweis University, including Vice Dean, Dean, and Rector’s Trustee. He currently serves as Director of the Department of Ophthalmology and Head of the Doctoral School of Health Sciences. He also plays an active role in leading international professional organizations, including the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). He is the author of more than 500 scientific publications and has received nearly 5,500 scientific citations. His outstanding contributions to medicine and research have been recognized with numerous prestigious national and international awards, including the Officer’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, the Dénes Gábor Award, and the Széchenyi Prize in 2026.
